Updates on a Possible Season 7 of The Expanse on Amazon Prime

Will The Expanse have a season 7?

Recently the YouTube channel Sci-trek posted a video called "The Expanse saved again?" that claimed Netflix and HBO Max are interested in adapting the final three books of The Expanse. The individual behind this channel claims to have insider knowledge. I don't know whether or not this claim is true, but in this video, he says Amazon has storyboarded the last three books in The Expanse series to see if they could be made into movies.

It is likely that there has been some behind-the-scenes interest at Amazon in continuing the series. No one involved in the show has ever said definitively that the series is truly over and some have hinted at more to come. A Twitter exchange between Nadine Nicole who plays Clarissa Mao and Shohreh Aghdashloo who plays Chrisjen Avasarala seems to confirm there are or have been discussions about possible movies.

But even more interesting is this tweet directed at the James S.A. Corey account on Twitter. Based on these tweets relating to this survey, it does appear that discussions about continuing The Expanse are ongoing at Amazon even if the duo that makes up James S.A. Corey is unaware of them. According to Sci-trek, Amazon has ruled out the possibility of doing movies because they couldn't do them justice and they would be too expensive. He also claims that Alcon Entertainment which owns the rights to The Expanse isn't interested in a trilogy of movies. They would rather it continue as a TV series.

However, the survey sent by Amazon indicates they may not have given up on The Expanse just yet. If Sci-trek's information about a lack of interest in a movie trilogy is correct, it's possible that Amazon may be considering continuing the series with seasons 7-9. I address the possibility of The Expanse moving to Netflix or HBO Max in a separate post: Is The Expanse Season 7 Coming to HBO Max or Netflix?
