SimpleRockets 1 is a fun space simulation app that is no longer being updated |
SimpleRockets is both an app and a PC game that lets users design their own rockets and launch them into space. There are two versions: SimpleRockets (now often called SimpleRockets 1 to distinguish it from the newer version) and SimpleRockets 2. While there are some similarities between the two versions, they are in many ways very different games. And not just because the older version is 2D while the newer version is 3D. Because of these differences, some players may want to get both and some may prefer the earlier version.
There's a sizeable price difference between the two. At the time of writing, SimpleRockets 2 is $6.99 for the app in the Google Play Store while the earlier version is $2.99. This is true for the PC versions on Steam as well. Version 2 is $14.99 while version 1 is $7.99.
SimpleRockets 1 is a little like Kerbal Space Program and Spaceflight Simulator in that players choose rocket engines, fuel tanks, and other parts then snap them together. And like those games, it uses realistic aerodynamics and orbital physics. SimpleRockets 2 is a little different from the original in that the various parts can be resized before being snapped together.
"Resize and reshape fuel tanks, wings, cargo bays, fairings, and nose cones with easy-to-use tools that help you create exactly what you want. Resize solar panels, wheels, pistons, shocks, etc to fit your needs."
If you prefer picking and snapping parts over resizing and reshaping them, you might prefer SimpleRockets 1 to SimpleRockets 2. Unfortunately, the original version hasn't been updated by developer Jundroo, LLC since 2018. This brings me to the question, does SimpleRockets 1 work on Android 11? I play it on a Samsung Galaxy S10e phone with Android 11 and I haven't had any problems. I've built and launched ships in sandbox mode, done some of the training, and passed many of the challenges, all without any issues. I have SimpleRockets 2 for PC and I actually prefer the training and challenges in version 1 on the app.
So, in my experience, yes it does work. However, there may be problems using mods with the older version. I don't use mods, so I don't know whether they do or don't work. Of course, any major OS update could break the game, which is something you have to keep in mind before purchasing. I love playing SimpleRockets 1, so I hope it will last for a while longer. If you decide to take the risk and buy it, check the refund policy beforehand in case it doesn't work for you.
